What Causes Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins affect millions of Americans every year. This painful and unsightly condition occurs when healthy veins, typically in your legs, become damaged. The valves withing a varicose vein do not close properly, causing blood to pool in that vein.
Varicose vein treatment aims to address the underlying cause of the faulty valves and reduce the appearance of varicose veins. The team at Colorado Skin & Vein uses modern minimally invasive treatments such as endovenous radio frequency ablation (EVRF), endovenous laser ablation (EVLA), Microphlembectomy, and other options, including medications.

Varicose Vein Symptoms
Varicose veins are a common condition that can cause both cosmetic and physical discomfort. While many people are aware of the visible appearance of varicose veins, they may not realize the various symptoms that can accompany this condition. You are likely a good candidate for vascular treatment if your varicose veins cause:
- Visible bumpy, ropey, or enlarged veins
- Spider veins
- Swelling in one or both legs
- Heavy, tired, or achy legs
- Skin discoloration around the ankles, shins, or lower leg
- Nighttime leg cramping or restless leg syndrome (RLS)
- Throbbing in the legs
- Leg pain or tingling
How Varicose Vein Treatments Works
Varicose vein treatments close or remove the damaged veins that have become enlarged and twisted.
For instance, Endovenous Radio Frequency Ablation (EVRF) and Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) are two methods where heat is used to seal the damaged veins, preventing blood from pooling. Both techniques involve minimal invasion, ensuring efficient closure while sparing surrounding tissues
Another innovative treatment mentioned is VenaSeal, which involves the use of a medical-grade adhesive to close off varicose veins. This approach is notable for its quick recovery time and effectiveness in sealing the problematic veins
Other treatment options include Polidocanol foam, which is particularly effective for smaller veins. Microphlebectomy is a surgical option that entails physically removing bulging varicose veins, providing both a functional and cosmetic benefit.
These treatments are tailored based on the severity and specific characteristics of the varicose veins..
What to Expect
The latest minimally invasive varicose vein treatments make the procedure easier and more comfortable than ever. While there may be some mild discomfort or bruising after procedures like endovenous ablation or sclerotherapy, any significant pain is usually temporary. Most patients report fast symptom relief and notice results within a few weeks after treatment. Patients will begin to see their varicose veins fading and shrinking as the newly closed veins get absorbed over time. With active lifestyle choices, you can maintain the results long-term.
Outside of healthier looking skin, treating varicose veins lowers your risk of developing serious health issues such as blood clots and skin ulceration, not to mention the reduction of more everyday aches, pains and fatigue.

Dr. David Verebelyi and his staff at the Colorado Skin and Vein are incredible. I had several veins in my legs and feet that were not working properly which caused a lot of swelling in my feet and ankles. At my initial appointment Dr. Verebelyi explained the process and procedures that he would do over a four-day period. Everything went exactly as he described. I feel like I have been given a new lease on life to be able to walk without my feet being so swollen.
Jamie Sowinski
I had laser done to remove veins from under my eyes. I was scared it would hurt or not work for me, but I didn't feel anything after they put numbing cream and a cold bar before they used the laser. It was a very good experience and even though it'll take a few treatments to fully get rid of them I'm confident it'll work because I already noticed a difference after the first one. I'm Super excited to finish!

Varicose Vein Questions
Varicose vein laser treatment works by using targeted laser energy to seal off damaged veins. The laser heats the inner walls of the vein, causing it to collapse and seal shut. This process is called endovenous laser ablation (EVLA).
During the procedure, a thin laser fiber is inserted into the affected vein through a small catheter. The laser energy is then delivered to the vein, causing it to close. Over time, the treated vein will be reabsorbed by the body, and blood flow will be redirected to healthy veins.
Laser treatment for varicose veins is minimally invasive, typically performed under local anesthesia, and allows for a quick recovery. Most patients can return to their normal activities within a day or two after the procedure.
Laser vein treatment is generally considered to be a quick and relatively pain-free procedure. Most patients describe the sensation during the treatment as a slight stinging or a feeling similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin.
To minimize any discomfort, you may be given the option of using a topical anesthetic before the procedure. The majority of patients find that the treatment is well-tolerated, and pain after the procedure is minimal or nonexistent.
The number of treatments needed varies depending on the individual case, but most patients achieve satisfactory results with just one or two sessions. Side effects are few and typically mild, with the most common being temporary reddening and swelling of the skin, which usually subsides within 24 hours. In some instances, patients may experience bruising or, in rare cases, blistering.
Following the treatment, any pain experienced is generally minimal to nonexistent, and patients can return to their normal activities almost immediately.
For varicose vein laser treatments, the number of treatments typically required can vary depending on the specific type of laser procedure and the severity of the varicose veins. Our medical professionals can provide an estimate during the initial free consultation.
